Katerre was created in 2004, offering eco-tourism expeditions in communion with the Negro River communities. Departing from the Novo Airão municipality, 200 km from Manaus, the expeditions reach all the Negro River and its affluents (Jaú, Apuaú, Jauaperi, Aracá) extension in order to find the most fascinating spots to compose the 3 to 7 night regular routes, or alternative-customized expeditions (charters) upon request. The shorter routes cover the Anavilhanas National Park – the 2º biggest fluvial archipelago in the world. And the longest ones sail the Negro River up to the Jauaperi River in the borders of the Roraima state. The fleet consists in two super authentic river boats, built right there by the Novo Airão shipping industry tradition: Jacaré-açu (8 ar conditioned cabins) and the Jacaré-tinga (3 air conditioned cabins) are truly amazonic in its design and essence, with finishings in natural fibers and cozy ambiences. The genuine experience is only completed due to the local and adorable crew that welcomes visitors with their simplicity, warm heart and local talent – either the cooks preparing local delicious dishes or the forest guides leading the trails and observations with wise knowledge and deep respect to the nature around. The crème de la crème: Katerre includes visits to social projects that the company supports since its beginning. In the Gaspar Community, the VivAmazônia kindergarten & pre school; and in Novo Airão, the Almerinda Malaquias Foundation, that offers local children and teenagers environmental education, and also offers for young folks and adults professional training in craftwork and design by making use of authorized amazon wood.
